    PACE records
    for St.Mary & St.Luke Church Shareshill 1564-1838

These records are from the LDS microfilm - the IGI on FamilySearch.org showed only four entrys so I ordered the Microfilm knowing that GEORGE PACE of Prees, my 6X great grandfather, came to SHARESHILL from RANTON around the 1720s so many PACES would have been buried at SHARESHILL afterwards.

I did visit the churchyard cemetery but did not find any PACE graves. I was told that not everyone could afford a grave marker. I thought this rather strange.

GEORGE PACE Chr 1670 at PREES Shropshire had appeared to have a brother JOHN PACE Chr at WROCKWARDINE Shropshire 1665 Saint Peter's Church parents JOSEPH PACE and MARGARET PALMER. The link between GEORGE and JOHN PACE was determined by means of DNA testing and results of myself, born BIRMINGHAM UK and many DESCENDENTS of JOHN PACE in AMERICA.

    COAL MINING

    On a recent visit to
    SYDNEY, Nova Scotia

    I noticed

    were main streets downtown

    THIS COULD INDICATE
    STAFFORDSHIRE COAL MINERS
    LIKELY CAME HERE

    The name CORBETT was popular

    EXPLANATION
Although the 1709 Christening at RANTON mentioned JOSEPH, the name JOSHUA appears later in SHARESHILL parish. Confusing? This name change occured previously with JOSHUAH Chr 1618 at PREES, his marriage in 1653 at HIGH ERCALL (age 35) and CHRISTENINGS at RODINGTON of ANN PACE 1655 (age 37) WROCKWARDINE of JOHN PACE in 1665 (age 47) and PREES in 1670 of GEORGE PACE (age 52). The father's name name appears as JOSEPH.

An exhaustive study of all local parishes for PACE CHRISTENINGS was the only way to determine that JOSHUA and JOSEPH were likely the same person. The few Christenings and rather extensive time between them may indicate the father may have been a tradesman, artisan, merchant instead of a farmer.

      In 1742
    • JOSHUA PASTE of Little Saredon

    • JOSHUA PAST/PACE of Little Sardon buried 7 Sept 1742

It's 54 years between the marriages of EDWARD CORBETT - MARY PACE in 1767 and SARAH CORBETT - GEORGE PACE in 1821. PITT folks were witnesses at both weddings, plus others. It seems that PACE, PITT, CORBETT folks were rather close in those years.

    Hi Gord
Thanks for these two Pace/Corbett marriages. Do you have any details about the parentage of the Corbetts? I'll make a check through all my records and see if I can identify them and will let you know if I have any luck.
    Best wishes
    Jean
