Decade by decade
~ my ancestors ~In 1600's - 1st two decades appear FOUR PACE FATHERS
in Christenings at PREES
These four fathers show in the records as RICHARD, THOMAS, GRIFFITH and ROWLAND PACE
and where did they come from?
POSSIBLY from a GLOUCESTERSHIRE PACE family

THOMAS PACE
RICHARD PACEregistered as father in Christenings at Prees.
The RD PACE
may be RICHARD PACE
or ROLAND PACEThis needs attention because in the following decade, 1610 to 1620, a ROLAND PACE appears as father in registered Christenings.
RD.PACE could be ROLAND as well as RICHARD.
Differentiation may apply,
looking at number of years ROWLAND PACE continued as father in registered Christenings at Prees, 1615 to 1626.

GEORGE PACE's parents?
Not likely
but where did this JOSEPH, come from? There is no Christening of JOSEPH in Prees PRs about 25 years earlier.
GEORGE PACE named his first child MARGARET PACE Chr 19 Aug 1694. This makes some sence. JOSEPH PACE's wife was MARGARET PALMER. Marriage in HIGH ERCALL records.A 1653 PACE-PALMER marriage is recorded at HIGH ERCALL in 1653. I believe this couple to be my 7X great grandparents. Note spelling of the name, JOSHUAH

It was necessary to scour all available parish registers in the area to conclude that this was the likely family, not absolute but there is nothing further to look up.
and the names given to his children in the 1690's matched up with names JOHN PACE of Middlesex Co. Virginia, also gave his children. With little else to consider, these are important facts.
At this point
Some researhers in America may look at Christening names of George's children and John's children in the 1690's and see very close selection of the names given. Apart from the DNA match of descendents of this JOHN PACE and myself, there is nothing further to go by on the English side.
In American colonies, people took land patents to establish ownership of land so there are records to look up and prove such matters. The same was not so in Shropshire. Maybe an important fact. This is why people emigrated, to own their own land. In England, the land was owned by the Lord, baron, Laird in Scotland. Emigration was encouraged, people were told they could own their own farm in the colonies. It is important to think of others of this PACE family of Prees, who may have also emigrated from ENGLAND to elsewhere.
There is the JOHN PACE ye sonne of JOHN of Hunger's parish on the peninsula of the Chesapeake Bay, near to the Middlesex Paces.
the record book of Hungers Parish in Northampton County, Virginia, a record of Baptismal for the year beginning March 25, 1661.... Then follows the names of six children baptized, one of which is 'John Pace ye sonne of Jno. [John] and Mary Pace' on the 28th of April, 1661." This record implies John (Sr.) was born 1644 or earlier. His earlier birth is also implied by the contents of the detailed inventory of his estate as shown by Bruce. This John died 1/20/1720/21 in Middlesex, VA and named eight children in his will as follows: Sarah b 4/24/1694, Joseph, Sr. b 1698, Benjamin b abt 1700, Margaret b 3/15/1701/02, Mary b 7/23/1704, Jane 9/22/1706, Newsome b 2/6/1707/08, William b 3/25/1711, George b 1/15/1713/14. Birth dates have been added from my records. These were children by John's second wife, Elizabeth, surname probably Newsome. As stated above, his son, John Jr. was born by his first wife, Mary. His third wife was also a Mary and is associated with the administration of his estate.Batch Number: P019051

A descendent in US writes:
My ancestry goes through John H Pace (1721/22-1790) and I have documentation that he rendered patriotic service by supplying Wahington's troops. It is controversial whether the William that was Washington's guard was his son, but if this is true, then the son may have been the contact for the transfer of supplies.
I've been reading on Wales.
It was never a really unified "country" as Scotland was, with a common ruler, but rather was divided into kingdoms, often at war with one another. There was however a brief period when one of the kings was recognized as suzerain over all of Wales (suzerainty implies that the rulers of the kingdoms have recognized him as supreme king but without giving up their right to rule their areas, so he has little control over them.) So in the political sense there was never really a "Wales". However, there was at one time a Welsh legal code that came to be recognized by all of the kingdoms which was distinct from English common law and was derived from Celtic, rather than Anglo-Saxon, origins.Devolution is occurring in both Scotland and Wales. "Devolution" means that the central government of the United Kingdom (parliament)allows a local legislature to be elected and grants it certain powers. In Scotland, this has gone pretty far and some Scots want to break off and form a separate country with links to the British Commonwealth like Canada has. Wales hasn't gone that far yet, and devolution is very recent there, but they do have a legislature and that now implies that there is a definite border. That legislature only has power over certain things, as decreed by Parliament.
Interestingly, the Celtic laws that developed earlier in Wales gave more importance to women than English law did, and actually in the present legislature the women have a majority of one--31 and 30, if I remember correctly, the only legislative body in the world with a female majority.
Devolution is not statehood, as the central government can withdraw it at any time, unlike our states, and parliament tells the Welsh legislature what subjects they are allowed to legislate on, and what they can't. But it is widely viewed as a step to greater independence.
