Joseph Pace 1698-1765      John of Middlesex Group

1 JOHN PACE
of MIDDLESEX County VA

2 JOSEPH PACE 1698-1765 - d GOOCHLAND County, VA.
+ ANN BASFORD
- wed Oct. 24, 1717 MIDDLESEX Co VA

JOSEPH PACE, moved from MIDDLESEX to GOOCHLAND County - about 1736

  • Jack Pace (Wmsbrg)
    - I would believe (from deeds) that JOSEPH went in about 1736
  • His last child born in MIDDLESEX was in 1731, I believe,
and SARAH, his daughter, was born in GOOCHLAND in 1734 (not proven).

Jack Pace of Williamsburg writes
on Jan.7th,2013 - Pace-L:
  • MARVEL MOSLEY was a neighbor of
    JOHN PACE Sr. of MIDDLESEX
  • He had a son JOHN MOSLEY who, like JOSEPH PACE, moved from
MIDDLESEX to GOOCHLAND County I would, from deeds, believe that JOSEPH went in about 1736,
  • I believe his last child born in MIDDLESEX was in 1731 and SARAH, his daughter, was born in GOOCHLAND in 1734 (not proven).
  • He purchased land on LITTLE BYRD CREEK from JOHN Mosely, son of Marvel.
  • JOHN MOSELY married MARY NICHOLS in Middlesex 10, Oct. 1717
  • JOSEPH married ANNE BASFORD 24, Oct.1717.
  • MARY NICHOLS was probably the daughter of HENRY NICHOLS Jr. who sold 150 acre plantation to JOHN PACE Sr.
  • I would guess - neighbors and friends

I never did figure out how BARRET fits into this family. He is supposedly born c. 1806 (which fits) but in Tennessee which doesn't seem to. We think that JOSEPH and MARTHA moved to the Glasgow area of Barren County Kentucky around the birth of David Foster Pace, November 1812. They may have travelled through Tennesse. Martha Foster Pace was born in the Glasgow area. Bond for Barret's marriage was given by James HUMPHREY, assumed to be a relative of the two other HUMPHREYs above. BARRET's wife MARGARET and DAVID's wife GRACIE were sisters.

    GROOME & PACE

are found in same SHROPSHIRE parishes of the ENGLISH Midlands where GROOM-PACE links with a variety of other local Shropshire surnames. DNA links my PACE of Shropshire ancestry to JOHN of M descendents.

Perhaps a study of KY GROOME ancestry / descendency - eventually may find these KY GROOMES were originally Shropshire emmigrants and similar to JOHN PACE who emmigrated from Shropshire to Virginia in latter 1600's.

The following INDENTURE of 1840 - Clark Co - refers to a SARAH GROOME about property on Upper Howards Creek. It's known that MURRAY PACE - father of a SARAH who married a GROOME - settled at or near this site in 1809. GTPace - Canada

JOHN PACE b 1787 Goochland Co VA
    + POLLY GROOME m 1807 Albemarle Co
    Their children were:

    • MURRAY b abt 1810
    • JAMES b 1813
      + MINERVA RUPARD b 1820 KY
      • ROBERT b 1838
      • MARY E. b 1845
      • JOHN W. b 1847
      • MURRAY b 1850

    • WILLIAM b 1/8/1817
+ ELIZABETH HAGGARD had 15 children.
They are probably the ANCESTORS of most of the PACES in CLARKE Co KY
    • JOSEPH b 1818
    • BETSY (Elizabeth) b 1824 and
    • MARY b. ?

Their son WILLIAM married Elizabeth HAGGARD and they had 15 children. They are probably the ancestors of most of the Paces in Clark Co, KY.

John's son JAMES (b 1813) reportedly married Minerva RUPARD(b 1820 KY) They are on the 1850 census of Clark Co, KY. Per the census their children were:

    • Robert b. 1838
    • Mary E. b. 1845
    • John W. b. 1847
    • Murray b. 1850

The above Robert Pace is apparently the Robert Pace on the1880 census of Clark Co, KY. He is listed with wife Martha J. (age 40) and children as follows:

      James W. 18, Mary M. 16, Elizabeth 14, Clifton 12, Milton 10, Livy 8, Sally 6, Nanny E. 4, Murray M. 1.

CLIFTON and MILTON were the PACES in the Pace Graveyard on SCOLLSVILLE RD. in CLARKE Co and HANNAH H. was the wife of MILTON. I do not know who Mary Eppa Pace, CHARLEY ROBERT PACE and ROSA PACE were, but they were probably closely related to ROBERT PACE.

The ZACHARY TAYLOR PACE in the THACKER Graveyard
was a son of WILLIAM PACE and ELIZABETH HAGGARD
WILLIAM was a son of JOHN PACE and POLLY GROOME.
