BENJAMIN s/o JOHN of MIDDLESEX
is not listed in the Christ Church Register,
other than the parent along with spouse MARY

They had several children in MIDDLESEX, none of which was a BENJAMIN. BENJAMIN SR. moved with his wife MARY and family, to King and Queen County as an overseer of a large section of land for HENRY THACKER, who was, what would be, county clerk today.

+ 2 FRANCES WILLIAMSON - d/o of Samuel & Frances WILLIAMSON

Some confusion has existed surrounding BENJAMIN senior, junior and their marriages. The following from GWPace on Bruce Howard's assessment, may help a clearer understanding:

[PACE-L] 9/29/99 Benjamin Pace and Frances Williamson
Bruce Howard's record of Benjamin Pace and Frances Williamson, whose son married ANN ROBINSON - he shows the younger BENJAMIN born approx. 1747 in King & Queen Co, and later refers to a Bible record which shows his birth date as Aug 12, 1764.

I do think the elder Benjamin was married to Frances Williamson and that She was his 2nd wife, the first was Mary.

The Bible record shows Ben Jr. as the son of Benjamin and Frances. Bruce states confidently on page 58 "... his wife died. He thereafter remarried to Miss Frances Williamson of Middlesex, daughter of Samuel and Frances Williamson." Bruce presents several deed transactions between this Williamson family and the Benjamin Pace family. The clincher for me is that Benjamin and Frances named a son Williamson Pace.

  • 3 BENJAMIN PACE II - b about 1728/30
    - probably in Middlesex but birth not recorded in Christ Church PR
    + ANN ROBINSON - m 1749

This BENJAMIN was most likely born in King & Queen Co as were his brothers WILLIAMSON, JOHN and posssibly DAVID. BENJAMIN stayed home from Rev War and brother JOHN took his place, for their father had died, BENJAMIN the oldest son was left to run the farm.

    This BENJAMIN was a minister
and, I believe, gave the property for the PACE Church in King and Queen Co. Jack Pace

Rev. John Pace served his first tour in place of his BROTHER Benjamin. He served this tour because their father had just died, and brother BENJAMIN was needed at home to care for the family. Since BENJAMIN, Rev.JOHN and WILLIAMSON, were brothers, and the children of Francis Williamson. Benjamin, his father, gave permission for Williamsons Pace and Cressy Sanders marriage, that indicates to me there were three Benjamin's.

    1. The first BENJAMIN who married Mary (Middlesex) ca 1700.
    2. Their child BENJAMIN born about 1728/30 (probably in Middlesex) but birth not recorded in Christ Church Parish Register, married Francis Williamson.
    3. Their son BENJAMIN also a Rev. conducted funeral services for Sarah Campbell the daughter of Edwin Thacker.who died 1796 in King and Queen Co.Va.

    If this is true
the BENJAMIN Pace who died in 1781 would be the Benjamin who was the father of Rev John for he enlisted in May 1, 1781.

I have copies of his application for a Pension as well as his wife Margret's widow application.

Tax was paid by a Benjamin on 500 plus acres in 1782 and in later years both John and BENJAMIN paid tax on a split of these acres, remember Williamson died of the small pox in Yorktown.

From the pension application papers in the National Archives, Wash. D.C., Rev. John Pace stated that he served his first tour of duty in the Revolutionary War starting May 1, 1781 from King and Queen County, Virginia. going in place of his older brother BENJAMIN who had to stay home and take care of the farm on account of the recent death of their father BENJAMIN PACE. Note: This tour was for six months, upon discharge he was redrafted. Rev. John Pace born on 8-12-1764 (older brother Benjamin before 1764) at King and Queen County, Virginia, died on 11-15-1839 at Calloway County Missouri.. Married on 12-18-1794 at Campbell County, Virginia. (record on file Campbell Co.Va.)- Jack Pace - Pace-L - 30 Jan 2003

    • 4 GEORGE SANDERS PACE - Much history exists on George Sanders Pace in Lancaster County Virginia.

They had several children in MIDDLESEX,
none of which was a BENJAMIN. BENJAMIN SR. moved with his wife MARY and family, to King and Queen County as an overseer of a large section of land for HENRY THACKER, who was, what would be, county clerk today.

This younger BENJAMIN married Frances WILLIAMSON, his brother WILLIAMSON married Cressy SANDERS, daughter of George Sanders, and brother JOHN married Margaret IRVINE. There was also a ROBERT PACE in King and Queen and I believe (no proof) that he was a son of BENJAMIN and MARGARET.

Now to take the story a bit further I refer to the 1790 Virginia County Tax List. Residing in Fluvanna County a Benjamin Pace was taxed for personal effects. In King and Queen County a Benjamin Pace was taxed for his personal effects as well as for 143 acres of land also listed in King and Queen was his brother John Pace taxed for 120 acres of land.

That puts a BENJAMIN Pace in Fluvanna County and a BENJAMIN Pace in King and Queen County at the same time. My contention is that BENJAMIN Pace of King and Queen was Rev. Benjamin Pace who preached in Pace Church in K&Q and the Benjamin Pace who married Ann Robinson in Fluvanna, his second wife, was the son of WILLIAM Pace, son of JOHN of Middlesex County Virginia. The Robinsons and the William Paces resided in Goochland/Fluvanna area. As stated King and Queen was a burn county for the federals burned the Court House making the court move to Pace Church for sessions. Margret and not Jane is correct, but John and Margaret also lived I believe in TN. at one time. Jack Pace

This BENJAMIN was most likely born in King and Queen as were his brothers Williamson, John and posb. David. Benjamin stayed home from Rev War and brother took his place, for their father has died, and Benjamin the oldest son was left to run the farm. This Benjamin was a minister and I believe he gave the property for the Pace Church. in King and Queen. Jack Pace

Benjamin Rowe and George Sanders Pace were the sons of Williamson and Cressy Sanders Pace. Williamson was the son of Benjamin Pace of King and Queen County Va. and grandson of John Pace of Middlesex.

Cressy was the daughter of George Sanders who named both Benj.Rowe and George Sanders Pace in his will. Cressy was not named and presumed dead, as was Williamson.

Much history exists on George Sanders Pace in Lancaster County, Virginia.
