Lemuel or Samuel ?
If Lemuel is Samuel, he cannot be the one the people believe could of possible have been lost in the
Johnstown Flood. Samuel is on the Glos, 1871 Census, but I cannot find him on the 1881 Census. I have
also tried to find a Lemuel on a Census, but have had no luck. The only time that I have come across a Lemuel
is on the list of Non-Conformist Baptims. Lemuel has a wife called Alice and a daughter Blanch and that
is in 1881, but I cannot find them on the Glos. 1881 Census.

MIGRATION to PENNSYLVANIA later MISSOURI & COLORADO
GEORGE Wm Jr. & SAMUEL PACE said to have emmigrated in 1869 to the US settling in PENNSYLVANIA. However,
HOARE descendent shows GEORGE and HARRIET were witnesses to wedding of sister ALICE PACE to ALFRED HOARE

from descendant Clive Brain in GLS of 1st marriage and neighbour of Brian Pope of the above notice
in his weekly GLS paper about the THOMAS PACE who was TRANSPORTED to Tasmania - A link now forms
between this GLS family to Australian members as well as Missouri & Colorado.
.....SAMUEL is on the Glos, 1871 Census, but not on the 1881 Census.
I have also tried to find a LEMUEL on a Census, but have had no luck. The only time that I have come across
a LEMUEL is on the list of Non-Conformist Baptims. LEMUEL has a wife called ALICE and a daughter BLANCH.
So there is some doubt as to the name SAMUEL or LEMUEL and who was killed. Another descendent mentions
GEORGE had a son GEORGE Jr. from 1st marriage b 29th April 1871. George Pace Junior also emigrated but was
killed in a mine accident.
After the 1889 floods in Pennsylvania referred to as the Johnstown flood, SAMUEL was not heard from again.
This famous disaster documentary - PBS TV - and several gov't. web sites depict this disasterous event
A ROAR LIKE THUNDER
On June 1 1889 Americans woke to the news that Johnstown, Pennsylvania had been devastated by the
worst flood in the Nation's history. Over 2,200 were dead, with many more homeless
George Wm. continued westward settling in MORGAN COUNTY MISSOURI and marrying Rachel BUCKLEY.
George PACE & Rachel BUCKLEY of MISSOURI
GEORGE WILLIAM PACE probably choose to move to the MONROE County area of MISSOURI as there was
mining going on in southern Mo. where he settled. Family stories states that he later traveled
to and owned an interest in some type of mining in COLORADO. He never moved his family there as
he bought land in MORGAN county, Mo. and his main occupation was farming. He was well respected
in the community. He died November 26, 1913 Morgan County Missouri and was buried in Silvey Cemetery.
There seems to be no connection to him and other Pace's in Missouri.
George "Lem" Pace of Missouri
Seeking more information on the GEORGE L. "LEMUEL" PACE who lived in MORGAN County MO,
and later in ELDON MO. He married GEORGINA LOUISE "LULU" FINLEY, the daughter of CHRIS
and JOSEPHINE FINLEY. They had GEORGE M. who was a minister. All three are buried in the
Eldon Cemetery. Lulu was the sister of my great grandmother-MINA FINLEY, born 1880 in
Morgan County, MO. - Melinda Bailey -

The man the ship was named after:
born at Fort Newark (NIAGARA on the Lake) became a dynamic presence in political and business
life in ONTARIO, CANADA
MacNabb served as a speaker of the Legislative Assembly, 1837-1841 and again in 1844-1848,
following the 1841 union of UPPER and LOWER CANADA (Ontario and Quebec respectively) into
the Province of Canada. He then served as prime minister of the province, 1854-1859. He had
extensive land holdings in and near HAMILTON, Ontario, and was involved in several railway
companies. Despite his enthusiasm for business, he died heavily in debt.
DUNDURN CASTLE, his imposing
residence at HAMILTON, ONTARIO is now a historic site open to the public. This painting, showing
MacNab in the speaker's robes, was done in England during a visit he made in 1849. -

1851 census
For Ellwood GLS (in the Forest of Dean) I have William Pace 36 from Tetbury,
Married to Fanny Jordan 29 from Lydbrook.
I am trying to find who her Parents were, and if she had any brothers or sisters,
I was led to believe she had a sister called Gwen, who could be my ggg grandmother,
I am very new to Family History and Computers, could anyone point me in the right direction,
or anything on Pace/Jordan from the Forest.
1881 census
Fanny was a widow and 59 - 1881 census - living at West Dean, near Lydbrook GLS
(in the Forest of Dean) where she was born. A possible brother or other relation
for Fanny might be John JORDAN, 61, a blacksmith born in Lydbrook and living in
West Dean, Upper Lydbrook at the time of the 1881 census. He lived with his wife, Eliza, 60,
who was born in Welsh Bicknor. Recorded next to John and Eliza are two other JORDAN families,
the heads of household being 28-year-old George JORDAN, a collier born in Lydbrook and
34-year-old Robert J. JORDAN, a collier, also born in Lydbrook.

The Royal Forest of Dean
An ancient royal forest of oaks, ashes, birches, and ferns in the
western part of Gloucestershire, south-central England, occupying an area
of 204 square miles in the western part of the county. It is bordered on
the southeast by the broad estuary of the River Severn and on the southwest
by the River Wye, which (for the most part) forms
the border with Wales.
The district takes its name from one of the great primeval forests of England
that still covers much of the high sandstone ridges and valleys of the south-central
part of the district. The woodland area was designated a national forest park in 1939.
Its oaks, ashes, birches, and ferns have overlapped a coalfield little worked since the early
1960s and an ancient ironworks much used by the Crusaders. Timber from the forest was utilized
in the construction of ships between the 16th and 18th century.
