JOHN CULLWICK I have been trying to read the will of MICHAEL of the CROWN - Virtually impossible - but he does seem to mention 2 sons - JOHN and CHARLES - and says that CHARLES is by his first wife HANNAH !

in 1881 Michael CULLWICK is living at 93 Hamstead Road, Handsworth Michael CULLWICK, head, 59, b Bromsgrove, sugar merchant Eleanor CULLWICK, wife, 65, b Birmingham Michael married Eleanor REEVES on 29 Aug 1846 at Aston Juxta (M011684)
Could this REEVES family be connected to the Mary REEVES
I further believe there is some connection to a George
LEDBROOK family whose wife CHARLOTTE looks to be a sister to my great grandmother, Emily CULLWICK as the 1881 census shows in their West Bromwich household Emma CULWICH 7 F born Laney Green, Rel: Niece |

Rev EJ Cullwick preached his last sermon at St Mary's, WESTBURY, Salop on Oct 11th 1953 at the age of 92 - according to the Times on 10th Oct. He had one daughter, Grace Mary (a spinster) who pre-deceased him Grace Cullwick was born 4 June 1894 and died 25 Oct 1952. GRACE, Rev. ERNEST and wife ELLEN lived in the Rectory at WESTBURY for many years. WESTBURY, Salop being between WELSHPOOL and SHREWSBURY in Shropshire, in the WELSH Marches. |
"JOHN of HATTON HALL" near SHIFNAL in Shropshire - John and Eliz started family life in Worcs then raised the remainder of their family at HATTON HALL, where he seems to have worked as a gardener for the SLANEY family. | If the first child born at Sheriffhales is correct, this would seem to indicate that he firstly moved from Bromsgrove to be a gardener at Lilleshall for the SUTHERLAND family. Probably moved from an estate house attached to the SUTHERLAND estate to be Head Gardener for the SLANEY family at Hatton. |

JAMES - ROWLESTONE - CULWICK - BARTLAM + AMELIA ROWLESTONE nee JAMES - m 11 Feb 1793 in WORFIELD, Shropshire James died in 1811 - Amelia remarried THOMAS BARTLAM 1812
VICARAGE CULWICK - father of my great grandmother EMILY CULWICK born about 1845 BROMSGROVE The SHARESHILL marriage notice shows EMILY's father as VICARAGE CULWICK in 1868. EDWARD PACE died at 31 in 1877. Emily PACE nee CULWICK then remarried REUBEN DUDLEY of CANNOCK and later ESSINGTON - click on REUBEN DUDLEY to learn more about EMILY's second marriage and ESSINGTON family. I'm therefore, interested in CULLWICKS of BROMSGROVE, since my great grandmother seems to have been born there about 1845. New found information has revealed that EMILY CULWICK born Bromsgrove was a daughter of VICARAGE CULWICK - above - and Sarah WARD - m 20 Oct 1834 St Martins BIRMINGHAM. The WARD family show in SHARESHILL parish where the PACE family was also since the 1720s. VICARAGE was a son of JAMES CULWICK and AMELIA ROWLESTONE who married at WORFIELD Shropshire 11 Feb 1793.
Gordon Thomas Pace - webmaster another Vicarage Culwick researcherMy ancester left the Birminham area abt 1860 to go to London where my mum's family have lived ever since. I dont know if your Vicarage and my Vicarage could be the same as I dont hold much with surname spelling as in 1881 there were 10 different spellings of it. Now it seems we are down to the two double LL & single L
Have a nice day YES Jackie - it sure is a great day that you came along and helped straighten out the 'wonderment' of the origins of VICARAGE CULWICK - it is a great leap ahead in our combined CULLWICK research - one "L" or two
I think VICARAGE as a Christian name must be very rare and my great
grandmother Emily Cullwick must have known something about Vicarage,
maybe as a surname. In her case it was her father's Christian name and
in this case, it points to Bromsgrove and near Bromsgrove is Cleeve
Prior where the Vicaridge and Lampit name occur in the parish register.
